i really want native american representation that doesnt portray them as crazy superstitious people being completely unreasonable especially about “land that doesnt even belong to them”

i used to think it was funny when ppl had like gross overreactions to situations that had homoerotic undertones but like i think it’s kind of sad after thinking about it like
people are raised in such toxic homophobic environments that being put in a situation like that, even without any romantic/sexual feelings, literally disgusts them and makes them feel uncomfortable to such a degree you know? like they’re scared people will assume that they aren’t straight because of it, and that scares them because they know how non-heterosexuals are treated because they’re sometimes the ones that treat them that way

iwilleatyourenglish:

everyone has said and done problematic things in their lifetime. that’s a result of the society we live in, not necessarily a reflection of their character.

what is a reflection of their character is how they react to being informed of the negativity within their behavior and statements, and whether or not they choose to change their behavior.

Why

holy shit okay this is, again, people applying western race relations to other countries and i will not have it
japan is notorious, absolutely notorious for fetishizing and being outright racist when it comes to stereotypes and other races. if you live in japan or you’ve ever experienced what it’s like to be a non-japanese person in japan,
japan is not the united states. the race dynamics are incredibly different. there are plenty of restaurants and businesses which have the sign ‘japanese only’ brazenly hung outside their walls. if you’re korean in japan? good fucking luck taking on the immense amount of racism that both the government and the general populace will hurl your way. there are third generation korean kids, who for three generations have had their families live in japan, who do not have japanese citizen ship purely based on the fact they have korean blood in them.
black people? a joke too. in japan they’re all buff, they’re all angry, and there is little presented to the country outside of outrageous stereotypes.
white people? you’re ignorant or you’re all idiots. that’s the truth, and it starts to deviate once you get into country by country. americans are all loud and fat and ignorant. british people are all upper class or fucking royalty of some kind.
so yes, it is offense. it’s offensive to not ‘white people’ in america, it’s offensive to the white demographic of japan, who funnily enough, don’t benefit from white privilege in a country in which they are not the ones on top of the ruling power structure.
i’m so sick and tired of westerners applying their racial dynamics to countries that have nothing to fucking do with them.
what’s even worse is white bloggers reblogging this going ‘oooh lmao’ about a country that has nothing to do with their racial politics in an attempt to seem more open-minded, which has the opposite effect when you’re basically imprinting your own views and your own country’s status on to another country’s. but i guess colonialism is dead, right?
not everywhere is america for fuck’s sake

But we aren’t talking about Korean, Black or anyone that isn’t white. We are talking about White people who still even in Japan have privilege over people who aren’t Japanese and are Japanese.
Foreigners get banned from places in Japan (and Korea probably other places too) because they like to harass women and be obnoxious.
Have you encountered White American men before? Especially when drunk? They incredibly fucking loud and rude. So imagine them drinking all that hot sake getting them drunker, quicker?
White people have privilege everywhere they go. We’re talking about White people who are always viewed as White btw, not Polish people in Eastern Europe or anyone like that who’s viewed as non-white by other White people.
You have no idea what you are even talking about do you?

laughing at this dumb western racist who would rather white people be the bad guy in every situation than admit that other countries can and are racist
funnily enough, not being american, or white, or raised in the western world, yes, i do have an inkling of what i’m talking about
your insistence that white people who have white privilege everywhere they go falls apart when you say shit like ‘white americans are rowdy while drunk so that’s why they get banned from places’ well shit let’s ban australians or africans or chinese people anyone who gets rowdy when drunk, something not confined to white people
one white person’s experience living in japan does not represent absolutely everyone’s experience in japan
hell even the points on those list are bullshit. english books aren’t that hard to find in asia full stop. plenty of bookstores carry books in english. that’s not a ‘white privilege’ thing. unless only white people can speak english now? and most of those points are just assumed ‘privileges’ for fuck’s sake.
but no you’re right white people are worshipped in japan. everyone japanese wants to be white, right? that has nothing to do with traditional japanese standards of beauty, it’s all because of white people. curly hair is uncommon in east asia.
you wanna talk down to people and pretend every other country in the world is controlled by white people, fine, but don’t pretend even for a second you’re just imposing your country’s racial dynamic because it’s harder for you to have a broader spectrum on what race is besides how it is in your country.

White guys go to foreign places and act a fucking fool. And again we aren’t talking about Black, Chinese or any other race/ethnicity we are talking about White people and why they have privilege and are targeted.
LOL Western beauty standards are fed to Japanese people. That’s 100% fact. English is made available because White people have forced the language on to many people making people want to learn English more than their own fucking language.
I never said White people controlled every country. I said they have privilege in every country because they are white. Yet, in some countries even if they aren’t the majority they had/do have power which is why they have privilege.
White people complain about this one cast of whiteface and immediately it gets broadcasted globally and immediately fixed. Meanwhile ever other race who has something negative done to them in another country doesn’t have shit said about them until people complain for days or weeks.
But White people don’t have privilege. Meanwhile Korea and Japan are continuing to have problems, yet people know nothing about that. And if they do it’s an ignorant Western view. But we wanna talk about what is happening to White people in global news not much about anyone else huh?
I’m racist because I say white people have privilege gtfo.

Okay but that doesn’t change the fact that there are Japanese people who are imperialistic, xenophobic assholes, like we have racist, conservative pricks in America.
Japan consistently erases its involvement with WWII in its own history books and shit and tries to justify, to this very day, all the bullshit it’s pulled on the rest of the world, mainly in the last century. A lot of people to this day spit in America’s face, ride around in vans and shout at foreigners, and people try to justify their own form of racism.
You don’t think that almost 100 years later there can’t be literally the equivalent of Neo-Nazis? It’s not problematic that the Prime Minister visited a memorial that honors some of those responsible for and convicted of slaughter? America has attempted to apologize for the nuclear bombings - and was straight-up rejected by the Japanese government, but nobody’s sure if Japan apologized because their apologies were vague and indirect and nonspecific and didn’t even have any proper form of apology?
Like, it’s one thing to be proud of your country and try to preserve its traditions and standings, but it’s another to try to claim you’re doing this by being directly racist to other nations and defending violence in the past. (Conservatives/racists in Korea, China, and Japan are often known for throwing slurs around about the other countries.)
America’s hella guilty of some of these things, but Japan’s government just straight-up doesn’t care, and not only shows it, but it just sends subtle little “Fuck You” to other nations all the time.
The fact that they’re whitefacing is them sticking up their noses at Americans. (Again.) It’s like a college student publicly mocking their strict teacher after the kid pulled a shitty prank on another student and got punished by the teacher. The teacher was harsh and cruel, but the student’s mockery was unprecedented, rude, and unacceptable, considering the dynamic of the situation.
Now again, this doesn’t mean that so many Japanese people are racist, and Japanese-Americans aren’t oppressed. (The latter is irrelevant and completely untrue.) But the presence of these nationalists is loud and precedent in populated, urban areas, and the conservative sentiment clearly lingers in the government.
And I’m not saying “white/Western privilege” doesn’t exist in Japan. A lot of the points that are being made above are totally true, especially since the post-WWII occupation was basically us babying them into Western culture. But our basic understand of and international relations applies differently and more abstractly to Japan.
In other words, yes, they were being racist. But not in the way most people would understand it.

idk why there has to be a huge discussion about this, like if something is racist its wrong. thats it. it does not matter which race it is against. racism is wrong wether it be against white people or black people or asian people or anyone.
and honestly, when people think that other races cannot be racist against white people it just furthers the belief that we are all different and can never be the same. by saying “you cant be racist against white people” what you are really saying is “we are different from white people”
and its fucking hilarious how some people are like “racism is wrong, equality for all” and then go on and on about how different poc are from white people, continuing to draw a line between us all and not holding everyone to the same standards

incorrectusage:

Alright.

You are actively hurting your own movement.

You are tearing down the progress people have worked long and hard for in the name of who can be the most radical.

And seriously? Fuck you for doing it.

  • [Oppressed] people don’t have to be nice to [privileged] people- they’re their oppressors! Yes, as a group, privileged people have oppressed oppressed people. As individuals? No. And when you classify ALL privileged people as “your oppressors”, you are, in essence, saying your existence would be better without them- that their very act of being alive in the world today is oppressing you. Do you not see how small of a hop, skip and a jump that is to “it would be better if these people were not alive” to “let’s kill them”? The barista who served you coffee this morning is not actively oppressing you, despite her cis/het/white/able-bodied/neurotypical/whatever-ness. Systems of power are oppressing you. Age old laws are oppressing you. Corrupt law makers are oppressing you. Every individual privileged person CANNOT be classified as “your oppressor”.
  • [Oppressed] people don’t have to be nice to [privileged] people- they’re their oppressors! Sure as a general rule no one has to be nice to anyone, whatever. You can be a huge dick to everyone around you. My personal opinion is that would make for a much sadder, angrier life, but hey I’m not your mom. But. Here’s the big, big but. When you are positing yourself as a Social Justice Advocate (be it warrior, activist, whatever) you are putting yourself as the “face” of that oppressed group(s). When you do that, you automatically become someone people will look to when they look at your oppressed group. Being a dick is only going to make people angry, solidify their views, and make them double down on the hate. Don’t feel like you can be nice today? Go to a safe space (see below), or stick to other topics, or call up a friend. Don’t take it out on other people.
  • They would have hated me anyways! What kind of cop-out bullshit is this? Really, this doesn’t even deserve a response. If someone is seeking you out to learn about whatever SJ issue, then they are, at WORST, curious if biased.
  • It’s not my job to educate you! YOU POSITED YOURSELF AS A SJA. You are telling people what is right/not right, what is oppression, what is privilege, what is power. You are positioning yourself as a teacher- saddle up, because now you’re teaching. Make a 101 FAQ (and try not to do the shakesville 200k word + FAQ) and link that a many times as needed. If someone’s derailing by continually demanding you educate them, even after you’ve linked the 101? Block them. Don’t want to be a teacher? Then back down from the activism. Yes, it’s fucking exhausting, and dreadful, and soul sucking. That’s what social change looks like. Take a break if you need to.
  • [Insert dreadful “joke” about privileged people here, be it a White Girl joke or ‘ewww I touched a cishet today’ or *voice* posts] Congratulations you’re making your group look like an asshole. Moving on.
  • All insulting [privileged people] does is hurt feelings/white tears/male tears/fee-fees/waah waah call a whambulance]etc! Good God. I literally am unable to fathom how you are so ignorant. How many people on this website have anxiety disorders? Depression? Bipolar? PSTD? ASD? How many people on this website have been so deeply hurt by “just words” that they have hurt themselves or, God help us, killed themselves? Remember when your parents would tell you to ‘just ignore’ the bullies? Remember how that made you feel, how you felt like all you could do is sit there and soak up their cruelty? Guess what. You’re the bully now.
  • But it’s not nearly as bad as what [oppressed group] goes through! YES. This is right! Being called ‘fucking cis scum’ is no where near as bad as being beaten for being trans! You are right! Did you know you are essentially prioritizing one human’s emotions over another’s? You’re saying “you broke your arm but hey, some people break BOTH arms! You’re fine!” That’s bullshit and you know why? Cause it STILL FUCKING HURTS TO HAVE A BROKEN ARM. It still hurts to be broke, even if you’re not in poverty. It still hurts to be in poverty, even if you have access to running water. One human’s pain can only be gauged by the experiences of that human- not by the theoretical ‘worse thing’ that you will throw out at them.
  • You are not screaming at systems of power. You are screaming, bullying, and tearing down individual people. This isn’t helping your cause. This is venting anger at a system towards an individual. This is making an individual suffer the brunt of your anger and paint because they happen to have been lucky enough to be born a little bit more “acceptable” than you.
  • But they said- Fuck right off. Unless someone is throwing slurs and defending their right to use them, or advocating violence/death to people, whatever they did doesn’t deserve a pile-on of hatred. Ignorance happens. People are misinformed, ignorant, clueless creatures. Either educate them (see above), or refuse to engage.
  • But I NEED to vent! This is my SAFE SPACE! Yes, you need to vent. Everyone does. This is NOT a safe space. This is a public blogging website where literally anyone can see and respond to whatever you throw out there. Need a safe space? There are dozens of moderated forums across the web, just a Google search away, where you can go and scream to your heart’s content around people like you, people who will understand why you are angry and why you are screaming, not random teenagers on a micro-blogging website. There are IRL groups in almost every corner of the globe, if you’d rather do some face-to-face breaking down.
  • Your emotions are valid. Your anger is valid. Your mistrust is valid. Being horrible to people who have not actively done you harm is not valid.

Also there is a feature on tumblr where you can make your posts PRIVATE. So if you want to post something on tumblr and don’t want to be called out for anything, MAKE YOUR GODDAMNED POST PRIVATE AND NO ONE WILL SEE IT (except possibly the NSA).

i just saw a post that went something along the lines of someone complaining about people insulting cissexuals and how everyone would be all up in their grill if it said trans* instead of cis and then the person said ‘well yeah they do everyday cis people always make fun and talk…

ok alright friend i wasnt sure how to tag it
though if you dont share the same opinion as me i really wouldnt mind if youd explain your side so id get to understand it a little more? i might be a little bit misinformed and id like to learn very much

A) I’m not your friend fuck that and here’s why:

B) ” if you’re trying to get people to realize that there’s nothing wrong with trans* people why dont you start acting like it???” Is not “being misinformed”, it’s full-on oppression apologism. It’s assuming from the start that there IS something wrong with trans people and that we have to be super nice to the people oppressing us or else we deserve that oppression. Which, uh. What the FUCK?!

Trans people are not just discriminated against. Trans people are not just insulted and called mean names. Trans people are systemically dehumanized, delegitimized, raped, and murdered for being trans (trans women & other dmab trans poc in particular). Trans people are literally abused by society as a whole (almost always by cis people ftr!) for being trans, and even if an individual trans person doesn’t experience this, they’re sure to have trans friends who have.

So, no, a few trans people on a blogging site making jokes about “cis is shit” or saying “I hate cis people” is nowhere fucking NEAR that level, and you’re kind of disgusting for suggesting so.

And next time, go educate yourself BEFORE you make a ridiculous post like that. This gets said by numerous trans people (and some cis people) *literally every day* on tumblr. There’s no excuse for this shit.

you misunderstood my first point. i was trying to say that there /are/ people out there that do think that there’s something wrong with trans* people. many people agree that being trans* or cis doesnt define someone as a whole and they are the same and should be treated with respect. mainly because everyone should be treated with respect because rights and that sort of thing arent selective, and we all know they’re for everyone! so what i was saying was that the general consensus is ‘trans* people are no different from cis people! treat trans* people equally!’ but it’s like, you can’t say that right before you say ‘fuck off you cis little fuck’ or something along those lines. my point is that it’s never cool to discriminate against anyone for anything, especially because of something like gender identity.
i never touched on injustices towards trans* people compared to cis people because that would be stupid. the answer is pretty obvious. again, my point is that whatever you identify as and whether or not it matches your biological parts, and whatever kind of abuse people make you go through, it’s never fun or ok.

many people agree that being trans* or cis doesnt define someone as a whole and they are the same and should be treated with respect.

rights and that sort of thing arent selective, and we all know they’re for everyone!”

where are these magical people that all think like this because i’m pretty sure it’s not most of society like it looks like you’re trying to say otherwise trans oppression wouldn’t fucking exist

& seriously nobody ~discriminates~ against cis people just because they’re cis. anybody insulting or making mean comments about somebody who’s cis is doing it because they’ve said or done something that’s oppressive/harmful. and those reactions? that anger? are 100% totally completely okay. it’s logical and sensible and completely fine to be angry at people who oppress you and to express that anger in a way that honestly doesn’t fucking hurt anyone (no, getting your feelings hurt by some meanyface trans person on the internet because you said something shitty isn’t actually hurting you. if you’re cis, you have literally the entire rest of the world to go be totally free from meanyface trans people saying literally anything at all to you and you’ll even be able to talk to nearly any other cis person ever about how mean trans people are and they’ll sympathize with you.)

and stop with the asterisk after trans, it’s transmisogynist as shit and shouldn’t be used

id first like to address the asterisk use and im very sorry about that. i was using it with false information about what it meant in mind and i shouldve researched it.

for the first and second points that you quoted, i dont mean a majority of the world. it isn’t a large percentage but i still believe that are fairly many people in certain communities that have come to realize that that sort of treatment is wrong. targetting the second one specifically, ‘we all’ by that i meant us. the people involved in this conversation. i shouldve been clearer and im sorry about that again

in my original post, i used the word ‘discrimination’ to describe those statements from frustrated and fed up trans people. i see now that i have exaggerated by a little bit (a lot). but i still think that sometimes some people take it a bit far and are like ‘you know what fuck cis people i dont need them anyway fuck them fuck that fuck everything i hate anyone cis’ which is what i was addressing in my original post. (im not saying that it’s anything compared to what trans people go through, and if you’re trans, i admire you a whole lot for making it this far and becoming strong and smart and nice enough to help me learn)

basically, i want to thank you a whole lot for taking time out of your schedule to educate me on those points and the issue in general. i’ll take down my original post.
